Hundreds of traders who sell their wares at the Kitengela Market yesterday refuted attempts to relocate them from their current space to another to pave way for the reconstruction of the market announced by the Kajiado County Government.
The traders who staged a peaceful demonstration at the proposed relocation site at the Kitengela DO’s office forced the area MCA Paul Matuiya to flee for his safety after the traders turned rowdy in anger.
The traders are apparently opposed to the relocation for fear that the spaces allocated to them may be taken away as soon as the renovation is complete.
The standoff has seen the scheduled renovation of the market that has so far been allocated Ksh 40 Million by the Kajiado County government has since been delayed.
The Kitengela fresh market produce is the main source of fresh food for many residents of Kitengela Town.
