Willian Borges is now officially a Gunner. This is after he today’s signed a three-year contract with the North London club.
The 32-year-old Brazilian said he decided to join Arsenal because it is one of the biggest clubs in the world. He said he is set for winning trophies with the club in a new project led by Mikel Arteta.
“I decided to join because Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world. They have a new project with Mikel Arteta. I’m very excited to become an Arsenal player, I can’t wait to start training and playing with my teammates,” Willian said.
Willian chose Arsenal over Barcelona and Inter Miami saying his key factor in his decision to join Arsenal is because he saw the opportunity to help the Gunners’ star shine again.
“I think this club deserves to shine again and I want to be a part of this project,” he said adding that being part of Arsenal family is amazing.
On the other hand, Mikel Arteta said he was impressed by Willian’s desire to join. He said he believes Willian can make a difference for the club.
“We have been monitoring him for the past few months; we had a clear intention to strengthen in the attacking midfielder and the winger positions,” Arteta said adding that he will give them a lot of versatility and can play in three or four different positions.
Willian rejected a two-year extension with the Blues having spent 7 years thus becoming a free agent. He left Stamford Bridge head high after playing 14,962 mins with 37 goals and 33 assists since 2013. He made 47 appearances and finished in fine form, with four Premier League goals.
