President Uhuru Kenyatta has this afternoon announced the resignation of Attorney General Githu Muigai.
In a post through his twitter handle, President Kenyatta said that he had received with much regret the AGs resignation.
“I have received with great regret the resignation of Attorney General Githu Muigai. I thank him for his service in the 61/2 years that he has served and have nominated his replacement Judge Paul Kihara Kariuki as his replacement” the President twitted.
The AG has been most memorable for his passionate defence and representation of the Government. He can perhaps be well remembered for introducing the term “Amicus Curiae” during his defence of President Kenyatta’s win during the Supreme Court sessions in 2013.
Most recently he will be remembered for calling out the opposition in a stern warning of high treason should NASA Principal Raila Odinga be sworn in as President.
Other changes that have been made by the president are Kennedy Ogeto as Solicitor General and Njee Muturi has been appointed as Deputy Chief of staff.
The President further announced that lawyer Abdikadir Mohammed as Ambassador to South Korea.
Interestingly two weeks ago the AG filed a petition at the Milimani Law Courts of NASA’s Peoples assemblies.
In the case filed under a certificate of urgency, the AG stated that the 15 people’s assemblies’ currently established are an illegality.
