Dr. Bernard Olayo, is a Kenyan doctor who founded Hewatele, an innovative organization working to ensure all patients even in remote areas of the country have access to oxygen.

His innovation hit the GatesNote, a Blog for Bill Gates, headlines with a title: “In Africa’s battle against COVID-19, a Kenyan doctor is making sure every breath counts.”

Now, Dr. Olayo is playing a critical role in Kenya’s preparations to tackle COVID-19 by scaling up oxygen supplies that will be needed to keep the most critically ill patients alive. This is a ray of hope to Kenyan hospitals and Africa.

This post motivated other innovators in Africa and the world. In his comment, Andreas von der Heydt, Director Talent Acquisition Amazon and Founder Coaching for Community, thanked Bill saying it’s true that in modern societies we take medical oxygen for granted. And not having known that a lack of oxygen, which is required to treat many diseases, results in hundreds of thousands of deaths every year.

“Dr. Bernard Olayo’s work to ensure that all patients in Africa have access to oxygen is a very remarkable and important one. Thanks to you and the Gates Foundation for supporting him and his organization in this daunting challenge,” Andreas wrote.

Founder of Shaphie Beauty Company Phoebe Shanzira said Kenya is my home country. Am super excited and proud to see such deeds by our own heroes. However, she wondered over lack of food.

“But then again it breaks my heart knowing that there are a lot of mothers who won’t have anything to feed their families because of the impact caused by Covid-19, it breaks my heart,” she wrote.

Huong, a Nails technician, came to the rescue of Gates from those posting negative comments saying everyone is just interested in what Mr. Bill Gates did or doing but the message here is: “Breathing new hope into Africa fight against Covid-19”. We should be glad because what those people are doing for Africa.
