Tension has returned at the Kenya-Tanzania border after more than 30 truck drivers were denied entry into Tanzania at the Lunga Lunga border point in Kwale County.
Mr Joseph Kongo,a Kenyan truck driver, said Tanzania started barring them from entering on Saturday after President Kenyatta’s State of the Nation Address catching the drivers by surprise.
“We are stranded here for the second day and our efforts to reach out to the authorities have not borne any fruit”Kongo said.
He added that his truck was loaded with mangoes worth 300,000.
“We have been chased away from our vehicle by Tanzanian Authorities, now they are off loading our goods mainly mangoes and we should not be near our truck”Kongo said.
Lunga Lunga Deputy County Commissioner Josphat Biwott said the move by Tanzania is a breach of the Namanga Declaration and will lead to unnecessary Tension.
‘The have started restricting Kenyan drivers from accessing the country because they don’t trust Kenyan Covid 19 certificates”He said.
