The County Government of Kajiado continues to strengthen efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 by establishing a new quarantine facility at Ilbisil to handle the daily increasing number of the positive cases, mainly from Matapato North, Matapato South and Namanga border town as Kajiado continues to record new cases of COVID 19.

Most of the cases originate from the neighboring Tanzania whose situation is unlikely to be monitored due to the nature of Tanzania’s government response to the Covid 19 pandemic.

An additional contributing factor to the situation is the porous borders between Kenya and Uganda.

“We have also started the process of ope-rationalizing Ngong Sub-county Hospital as a treatment centre for COVID-19”, a statement from Kajiado County Covid response reads.

In the last 24 hours, the Department of Health, has received results of 68 samples taken for testing 2 days ago.

Out of these, 11 truck drivers turned out to be positive. 7 are Tanzanians while 4 are Kenyans. 3 of the Kenyans are from the Namanga and 1 is from the Ilasit border point.

The Kenyans have been evacuated to isolation and treatment facilities for management.

It is not all gloom, we are happy to report 1 more recovery.

I would like to thank all partners for supporting response efforts and more so the health care workers putting their health and that of their families at risk for the sake of the safety of the residents of our County and country at large.

Tanzania’s response to the Pandemic has put Kenya in a catch 22 situation unsure of the nature of response to the Pandemic, with indications that the situation is undetected in Tanzania.
