Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has reiterated that the country must invest in manufacturing in a bid to survive the COVID 19 pandemic.
Addressing the press at his office when he received donations from well wishers Dr. Mutua said the pandemic has taught the country to be self-reliant.
He said for many years, the country has relied on imported goods and services and suppressed the innovation spirit and industrialization.
“This is the time to support manufacturing-from cottage industries to mega factories. We need to make it easier for our people to manufacture, sell locally and to export our products,”He said.
Both levels of Government he said should reduce bureaucracy and stream line taxation by ensuring that they promote exports of finished goods adding that it will widen the tax base.
